We, the Urhobo people, who are resident in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja formed this association, under the umbrella of the Urhobo Progress Union, for the purpose of enhancing the welfare of our members and the development of our motherland, within the context of a peaceful, united and progressive Federal Republic of Nigeria.
A Brief Background
The Urhobo Leadership Forum Abuja (ULFA) is a think-tank made up of Urhobo people resident in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The Urhobo people are one of the largest ethnic groups and a major stakeholder both in the Niger-Delta region and Nigeria as a whole. The Urhobo area hosts several oil wells and gas fields and associated energy installations feeding the Nigerian economy.
The Forum came into being as a result of the need felt by the late Distinguished Senator Chief Fred Brume for interactions and feedbacks of members of his constituency resident in Abuja. He hosted the meetings for about 12 years. He was given the initial support and encouragement by the late Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Dickens Ogheneruemu Patrick Sanomi.
We have successfully piloted the affairs of this organization, bringing the Urhobo people together, to speak as a voice for the people. We have been able to identify the challenges facing us as a community and nation at large, working tirelessly to foster peace, unity and progress of our motherland.
